Hair How-To: Runway to Everyday in 6 Simple Steps

Great news for busy women who want to look great but feel they don’t have time. There’s been a move toward “effortless beauty”– hair that is polished yet natural, luxurious but undone, says New York stylist Gavin Harwin. “It’s hair that sends the message ‘I look great, but I’m not trying too hard. I’m living my life.’ ”

For our commercial to announce our new Enticing Lift bra, we wanted to acknowledge that women today are ridiculously busy. Harwin, hairstylist for the commercial, shows how to create the runway and red carpet-inspired undone chic style of our model, Hannah.

Here’s how:

Step 1: Start with towel dried hair (style is best for shoulder length or longer hair) combed into a center part to create a carefree, nonchalant feel. Apply your favorite volumizing spray or mousse. (Try Redkin Guts 10 Volume Spray Foam or John Frieda Volume Building Mousse.)

Step 2: Blast hair dry, tipping head to the side to get lift at roots. For straight hair, work through hair while drying with fingers; for curly hair, smooth down with a soft bristle brush. (Harwin likes Mason Pearson brushes.) Once dry, brush through.

Step 3: Take a horizontal section from the top of the ear to the top of the ear and clip that section up. Using a 1-1/4 inch curling iron held vertically, wrap the unclipped hair—each section should be about 3” thick—from roots to ends downwards. Hold for 10-20 seconds.
Step 4: Take the top section out of the clips and divide again horizontally from the left front crown to the right front crown and clip the top section. With the new unclipped section, curl each section as before. Take the top uncurled section out of the clips. Curl the uncurled hair as before until complete.
Step 5: When finished, run your fingers through your hair to break up and loosen the curls.
Step 6: End with a touch of shine serum for extra shine and add a light spritz of hair spray for a little extra hold.

Tip: If you want to refresh at the end of the day, add a little dry shampoo to roots, shake hair upside down, brush through then break up curls with fingers.
